Abstract
Our previous behavior in the digitalization of society and economy has led to numerous challenges for human societies to prosper sustainably. At the same time, global cybersecurity efforts are increasing and playing a dual role as they protect humans and introduce new issues for sustainable human development. The lecture elucidates key challenges related to cybersecurity such as the hacking of democratic societies, the economization of digital human identities and value conflicts between cybersecurity and protecting privacy. Particular cases are presented to understand and analyze the mechanisms underlying the challenges, to discuss their impact on sustainable human development and to highlight possible scopes of action.
