Abstract
Building on a global research initiative (5C, "Cross-Cultural Collaboration on Contemporary Careers"), this paper reports empirical findings on seven major dimensions of career success as well as tentative results from a country-specific Austrian analysis on commonalities and differences for these seven career success dimensions with regard to age and gender. The seven major career success dimensions include learning and development, work-life balance, positive impact, positive relationships at work, financial security, entrepreneurial success, and financial achievement. Age and gender differences occur in particular with regard to financial security, positive relationships, entrepreneurial success and work-life balance. The findings call for a more differentiated approach when designing promotion systems.
