Abstract
During the crisis of 2008/2009 Latin America suffered a relatively weak reduction of economic growth. Based on a modified regulationist perspective and on insights of dependency theory the paper analyses why the crisis has not led to financial crises. The quick recovery and the following strong growth are mainly explained by changes in the monetary restriction and the still high level of raw material prices. In some cases, inward-oriented development strategies and processes of industrialisation contribute to stabilising the economy.
