Abstract
In the literature on payment behavior, only a few theory-based studies focusing on the use of payment instruments have been conducted. We apply the theory of planned behavior (TpB) and the technology acceptance model (TAM) to examine the factors influencing the use of credit cards. To this end, we use a sample of 300 consumers from the year 2008. The findings confirm the applicability of the TAM model but reject most of the hypotheses derived from the TpB. From a practical point of view, the results highlight the importance of past behavior in the context of payments at the stationary point of sale.
