Abstract
We examine the emergence of architecture at ATLAS, a complex technological system involving several nascent technologies. Whereas the extant literature emphasizes an unambiguous understanding of architectures by different social groups, our study shows the presence of diverse interpretations. The emergence of technological and organizational paths is characterized by an ongoing process of negotiations that results in interlaced knowledge. We flesh out some of the processes that are involved to gain a deeper understanding of the emergence of architectures.
