Abstract
If we look at the conception of freedom of speech as granted under the First amendment of the U.S. Constitution we will find a liberal approach unknown to Continental European doctrine and partly perhaps even inapprehensible for the continental European scholar. This may be especially true with regard to highly sensitive topics as hate speech, advocacy of and incitement to racial or religious intolerance and the circulation of false factual propositions about racial or religious groups.
