Quotation Hermann, Anett, Erten, Christiane. 2022. Religious diversity as part of inter-cultural relations in organisations – multiple aspects of linkage and exclusion. SIETAR Europa Congress 2022, Valletta, Malta, 18.05.-21.05.

Interculturality and caring about religious diversity are nowadays important for corporate success and at least in multicultural organizations no longer debated. Market developments, global business models, mergers and acquisitions, and international corporate governance determine the competitive environment of multinational corporations. Internally, there is an increasing heterogeneity in the composition of the workforce, whether unconsciously or consciously formed. Organizations create heterogeneous teams in order to cover external diversity - customers, suppliers, and clients. Generally, cultural and religious diversity plays an important role in teams internationally working. The development of cultural diversity in teams is closely linked to religious practices and the shaping of cooperation and acceptance of cultural differences - both with regard to conflict minimization and use of resources - influences knowledge generation and thus social learning in teams. However, within the area of Intercultural Studies, but also on a practical level, religious diversity still receives little attention. This is especially true for the German-speaking context. Several aspects may be the background for this situation: The concept of religion is associated with strong symbolic elements, which at the same time as the diversity of ideological positions often leads to incomprehension and irritation and is based on ignorance. The category comprises both "deep level" and "surface level" characteristics, which are often difficult to classify. Beliefs and values are not always recognizable in symbols, artifacts, and rituals. Religious diversity is always intersectionally linked to other diversity categories.
