Abstract (German)

Von der Idee eines neuen Produkts bis hin zum Marketing und Verkauf erstreckt sich eine lange "Ideen-Innovationskette", die von der Grundlagenforschung, über angewandte Forschung, Prototyp bis hin zum Verkauf reicht. Anhand zweier High Tech Sektoren - Telekommunikation und Biotechnologie in Österreich, Deutschland, Finnland und den Niederlanden von 1950 bis heute, soll untersucht werden, inwieweit nationale Institutionen, wie Technologiepolitik, Finanzierung, Bildungspolitik Einfluss auf die unterschiedliche Leistungsfähigkeit dieser Sektoren haben.


Abstract (English)

From the idea to the market is a long way. The idea innovation chain ranks from basic and applied science to marketing and sales. Two science based industries - telecommunications and biotechnology - from the 1950s till today are studied in four countries: Austria, Germany, Finland and the Netherlands. The role of national institutions, such as technology policy, finance, education for economic and innovative performance will be studied.
